States/Provinces

The Great Lakes shipping industry is integral to the economies of the U.S. and Canada by enabling efficient trade between the Great Lakes states and provinces, and between North America and more than 59 international markets.

The eight Great Lakes states and two Canadian provinces are home to one half of North America’s manufacturing and service industries. More than 100 Great Lakes ports form a critical link in the regional and bi-national intermodal transportation network, moving more than 160 million metric tons of essential raw materials and finished products annually.
